The new chairman for AIG, American International Group Inc, calls Naples, Florida his home. Late Wednesday, Harvey Golub resigned as the company's chairman. Robert Miller, whose primary home is in
Mediterra was chosen to succeed Golub, effective immediately.
The leadership change came as a result of a clash between Golub and teh companies CEO Bob Benmosche. In a resignation letter released by AIG, Golub said Benmosche informed the board of directors that the two executives thad a working relationship that was "ineffective and unsustainable."
Miller, 68, has been traveling and could not be reached for comment. He was elected to AIG's board last year and is chairman of the MidOcean Partners. He was formerly a CEO and chairman for Delphi Corporationi, an auto parts maker in Michigan that he helped guide through chapter 11 bankruptcy.
AIG, a leading international insurance company, has made headlines for it's massive losses and controversies over it's executive bonuses. In Sept. 2008, the federal government decided to rescue the company.
Miller's wife, Jill, said he had interviews lined up with Wall Street Journal and New York Times on Friday and Saturday. He planned to return to Naples this weekend. His appointment, she aid, came as a surprise to everyone."
"I think he has support from around the country," she said. "This is a big job and this is to help his country. That's why he's doing it. Anything he does is for the good of somebody or something."
The couple has lived in
